Master of Social Work (MSW) in Disaster Management

The Master of Social Work (MSW) in Disaster Management at Loyola College of Social Sciences blends social work with responding to disasters and calamities. This is a flagship course that trains students for professional work in disaster risk reduction, emergency response, and post-disaster rehabilitation management. Natural calamities and disasters impact local communities and ecosystems, making them vulnerable. This programme aims to prepare students to respond to and uplift communities that have been affected by disasters and calamities.

The curriculum covers disaster management, disaster risk reduction, psychological aid, working with vulnerable groups, and disaster management models. It also focuses on disaster resilience building, project management, disaster vulnerability, and self-care skills. The electives include handling Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, first-aid, geo-informatics, mental health, disaster health management, ICT for disaster management and geographical information systems.
