Master of Arts (MA) in Sociology

The M.A. Sociology at the Loyola College of Social Sciences aims to equip students with the tools to investigate and inquire into the complexities of contemporary society. It employs lectures, presentations, project work, debates, workshops, and field excursions in its pedagogy. It also screens films relevant to the subject and conducts academic events for a more engaging learning experience. The course aims to enable students to make sense of our society and go beyond common sense towards a philosophical level.

The course focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication while moulding students into responsible citizens. The curriculum covers classical sociological traditions, Indian sociology, sociological imagination, modern sociology, sociology of marginalised communities, and sociology of development. It also focuses on social entrepreneurship, social statistics, project planning, human behaviour, digital sociology, and social welfare administration.
