The college was started in 1972 as a second-grade college with just two-Pre-degree batches – [Group III [Humanities] and 1V [Commerce] and started functioning in a building of the Director of Public Instruction at Down Hill, Malappuram which continued till it was shifted to the present site in 1981.The college obtained U G course in Malayalam in the year 1981. After two years, in 1983, Group I (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as optional) was started. Later, to cater to the needs of large number of students passing out of the High School in the area additional batches were introduced for Groups III and IV at the Pre-degree stage and shift system introduced when infrastructural facilities were inadequate.
